Peripheral Arterial (Vascular) Disease (or PAD/PVD)
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD), is a prevalent condition where narrowed arteries lead to reduced blood flow to the limbs. This condition often results in pain or cramps in the muscles of the hip, thigh, or calf during activities like standing or walking. The discomfort typically eases during rest but tends to recur with physical activity. PAD can interfere with exercise and daily tasks, significantly affecting your quality of life. Without appropriate treatment, PAD can worsen, potentially leading to changes in skin color, the development of ulcers or wounds, and in severe cases, limb amputation.

Treatment
Our treatment strategy for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is holistic, focusing on preventive measures and non-invasive treatments to halt or slow the progression of the disease. When more intensive intervention is necessary, we leverage state-of-the-art technology and our extensive experience to conduct minimally invasive procedures aimed at alleviating symptoms and preventing severe outcomes like tissue loss or amputation.
For PAD, our minimally invasive procedures involve accessing the arterial system through a tiny entry point in the groin or feet. Through this access point, we expertly maneuver endovascular instruments to the site of the arterial narrowing or blockage. The most intricate part of the procedure often involves navigating these devices past the narrowed or blocked segments, a task at which Interventional Cardiologists and Interventional Radiologists excel due to their specialized training and focus on catheter-based interventions. Once the problematic area is reached and successfully navigated, we employ one or more specialized techniques to address the obstruction or narrowing.
Balloon Angioplasty
Balloon Angioplasty involves positioning a catheter with an attached balloon across a narrowed artery. The balloon is then expanded, opening up the blocked artery to improve blood flow.
Stent Placement
Stent Insertion is the process of placing a cylindrical metallic mesh within an artery to address a narrowing or blockage. This stent remains in the artery permanently to enhance blood circulation, typically used when angioplasty alone is inadequate.
Atherectomy
Atherectomy is a procedure that employs a specialized catheter to remove fatty and calcified deposits inside the arteries. By clearing these blockages, it restores proper blood flow. This method is often used alongside angioplasty and stenting.
